Workshops October 27th, 2010

The 2010 conference workshops will cover relevant industry topics and highlight customer case studies in each area.

Workshop 1: Accelerate Your Engineering Process – Learning From CAD2Crash24
Building on the EHTC09 “Robust Crash Analysis” workshop which featured a discussion of the RADIOSS simulation of a frontal crash event in 5 minutes, this workshop will dissect the technologies and methods that enabled Altair to mesh, assemble and simulate a full-vehicle crash model in less than 24 hours. These process automation efficiencies allow broader concept exploration early in a design cycle and the realization of simulation driven design. Using the techniques applied, from the CAD import through to result post-processing into MSOffice reports, participants will learn how they can achieve similar results in their organizations for often repeated simulations.

Workshop topics:

  • Overview of the CAD2Crash24 “Grand Challenge”
  • Pre-processing automation
  • Interactive model setup with HyperCrash
  • Analysis speed and scalability
  • Post-processing automation
  • Review of process automation efficiency strategies

Workshop 2: Composites - Smooth Dark Layers with a Honeycomb Centre – Design and Optimisation of Composite Laminates
For over six years, Altair in collaboration with its industry partners, has been developing a revolutionary design process specifically aimed at tackling composite design challenges. Altair’s CAE suite, HyperWorks, is now established as the leading virtual toolbox for composite design applications incorporating pre and post-processing capabilities, solvers and advanced optimization technologies. During this workshop, thought provoking examples from some of Europe’s leading composite designers will give you insight into how you can improve your design processes, how virtual models can be efficiently generated and the resulting performance assessed, showcasing composite optimization techniques, including material and weight reduction, along with automatically determining the optimum location of laminate boundaries.

Workshop topics:

  • Overview of available analysis & optimization methods
  • Applications in automotive, aerospace, wind energy, formula 1 & more…
  • Defining laminate models using HyperWorks
  • Composite manufacturing simulation
  • Composite optimization
  • Post processing
  • Non linear analysis methods for composites

Workshop 3: Harmonize methods, tools and processes - HyperWorks as standard platform for simulation
More and more product development enterprises, constantly struggling for harmonization of methods, tools and processes, adopt HyperWorks as the standard platform for simulation. Thanks to the recent integration of desktop applications (for modeling, result visualization, plotting and reporting) HyperWorks offers the most powerful, integrated and out-of-the-box working environment not only for multiple solvers but also for multiple physics like FEA, computation fluid dynamic and multi-body simulation. Moreover the open architecture alongside new tools for scripting and mathematical processing allow easy creation of specific processes and templates as well as the integration of in-house software.

Workshop topics:

  • How is a multi-solver and multi-physics environment built: core database and open interfaces
  • How to integrate in-house software with HyperWorks through templates and user-specific interfaces
  • How to create customized CAE processes and automatic reports
  • How to process FE results with user-specific mathematics (e.g. user-specific failure criteria, analytical buckling and crippling calculation, justification of rivets and bolts…)
  • The workshop will have a high level of interaction: attendees will be encouraged to discuss their own use cases with our experts
